How to Write FAQs That Help Customers Decide

Answer real buying questions accurately and make useful information easy to find.

A useful FAQ removes uncertainty for a customer. Start with questions from actual enquiries, sales conversations or support requests rather than inventing questions to fill a schema template.

Choose questions that help a decision

  • What is included in the service or product?
  • Which areas do you serve?
  • How can someone request a quote or buy?
  • What information does the customer need before contacting you?
  • What limits, exclusions or conditions would otherwise cause confusion?

Write a direct answer

Answer the question first, then explain the details that matter. Keep prices, availability, qualifications and timelines accurate. Do not invent a reassuring answer if the business has not agreed it.

Place answers where they help

Put service-specific answers on that service page. Keep billing questions with pricing and product questions with the product. There is no universal minimum word count or ideal number of FAQs.

Markup follows visible content

If you add FAQPage markup, it must represent the questions and answers people can read on the page. Schema is not evidence that a provider will cite the answer or display a search feature.

In AnswerMetrix

AnswerMetrix can propose content and relevant schema recommendations. Review drafts against your actual offer and apply them through the supported route or your CMS; a saved draft is not a published page.

Validate the resulting customer journey: can a visitor find the answer and take the promised next step?
